Một buổi kiểm tra chỉ số thông minh trong lớp học. Thầy giáo hỏi, Tí trả lời đúng, Tèo về nhà hỏi Tẹo — và câu trả lời hôm sau khiến cả lớp được một trận cười bằng bằng!
An IQ test in a Vietnamese classroom. The teacher asks, Tí answers correctly, Tèo goes home to ask Tẹo — and the next day’s answer leaves the whole class in stitches!
Thầy giáo quyết định kiểm tra chỉ số thông minh của học sinh. Thầy hỏi Tí:
Thầy giáo rất hài lòng, gật đầu khen ngợi. Tí ngồi xuống với nụ cười tự hào.
The teacher decided to test his students' IQ. He asked Tí: "Who is the child of your parents but is not your sibling?" Tí answered immediately: "That's me, Tí!" The teacher nodded with satisfaction. Tí sat down with a proud smile.
Đến lượt Tèo, thầy cũng hỏi câu tương tự:
Tèo gãi đầu gãi tai, mặt nhăn nhó suy nghĩ mãi không ra. Cuối cùng chàng đành nói:
When it was Tèo's turn, the teacher asked the same question. Tèo scratched his head furiously, face scrunched up in deep thought — but nothing came. Finally he said: "Let me go home and think about it first, sir!"
Về nhà nghĩ mãi không ra, Tèo bèn chạy sang hỏi bạn Tẹo. Nhưng Tèo đã hỏi sai câu hỏi ngay từ đầu:
Tẹo trả lời ngay không cần suy nghĩ. Tèo mừng rỡ, tưởng mình đã tìm ra đáp án đúng. Nhưng đâu biết rằng Tẹo đang trả lời đúng cho câu hỏi của chính Tẹo — chứ không phải câu hỏi của thầy!
At home, Tèo thought and thought but couldn't figure it out. So he ran to ask his friend Tẹo. But Tèo asked the question wrong from the very start: "Who is the child of YOUR parents but not YOUR sibling?" Tẹo answered instantly: "That's Tẹo, obviously!" Tèo was overjoyed, thinking he'd found the answer. Little did he know Tẹo was answering correctly — for Tẹo's own question, not the teacher's!
Hôm sau Tèo hớn hở đến lớp, khỏe với thầy chắc như đinh đóng cột:
Thầy giáo sững sốt, lẩm bẩm:
Cả lớp được một trận cười bằng bằng. Tèo vẫn chưa hiểu mình sai ở chỗ nào!
The next morning Tèo burst into class, beaming with confidence: "I know the answer now, sir! It's my friend Tẹo!" The teacher was stunned, muttering: "How can that be? It should be Tí!" The whole class erupted in laughter. And Tèo still had no idea what he got wrong!
